12050 Backup to optical media CDR, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-R, DVD-RAM, CD Writer Author: Products: URL: /Support_Kb.aspx?kbname=optical-backup-cdr-dvd-writer-issue Created: 22-Feb-2008 Last updated: 22-Feb-2008
Enhanced Windows Backup does not support backing up to optical media such as CDR, CD-R, CD-RW, DVDR, DVD-R, DVD-RAM, Blueray, HD-DVD etc This is because EWB uses Windows built-in backup engine NTBACKUP as its core backup engine and this does not support writing to optical media. This is due to the attributes of the writable file systems used on optical media which use the concept of sessions with distinct start and end events which are used to prepare a new session and close a session when a sequence of writes is complete. NTBackup does not incorporate the necessary support for writable optical media to issue the necessary calls. You may be able to get EWB to work with packet writer optical media drivers but we have not tested this.
